Adventures in Art

March 10, 2020

Today I was able to help during Chase’s Adventures in Art class. They were sculpting an object out of clay and then painting the clay a bright color with polka dots. The project was inspired by the artist, Yayoi Kusuma.

Chase chose to do a slice of pizza and I thought it turned out well!

Tree Climbers

March 14, 2020

Since we’ve been practicing “social distancing”, we’ve been doing family bike rides. The kids especially love to go to Paradise Park to climb trees. They are getting quite good, but I have warned them not to be too reckless:

We also put this puzzle together - but it was mostly me and Jayden....Chase and Riley weren’t too interested:

First Day of “Home School”

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Last night Jayden worked hard on a leprechaun trap - “Not a trap for the dog. Please don’t take gold”:

She didn’t catch a leprechaun, but he left a few treats (Rainbow Seeds, aka, Skittles) behind:

Today was the first official day of homeschool due to CoViD-19 school shut-downs. We got a late start and started school work sometime after 9am. The kids’ teachers have emailed us a mixture of worksheets, ST Math, reading, and writing assignments. We worked for over an hour and then took a break by walking around the neighborhood to see if any houses had shamrocks in their windows.

We worked for another hour and then had a hour lunch break. It’s exhausting trying to help three different grade levels of work! After lunch, we worked for another hour (Chase for an hour and half) and then took a bike ride break. Tanner had a meeting, so the four of us rode our bikes to Paradise Park. There was no one there, so the kids played tag and climbed trees. When we got back, Chase and Jayden did 20 minutes of silent reading and I read aloud to Riley. School was finally over! There were ups and downs, but today went well.
